Wardrobe Basics

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in other. For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

-Audrey Hepburn

Like most females, I love shopping for cute finds, investing in timeless pieces, and splurging on must-haves every now and then. I can’t wait to share some of all of those here on the blog, but today is my very first fashion blog post ,so in honor of timeless pieces, today we are talking Wardrobe Basics. Work wear basics, specifically.

As I started pulling items from my own closet that I considered “basics”, I realized this category was a bit too broad and must be divided and conquered throughout multiple blog posts. Stay tuned for those on-deck posts, today we are diving into Work Wardrobe
Basics.

First, let’s clarify what determines a Wardrobe Basic?

These items are your BFF’s. They may not be the most exciting piece in your closet, but they are the foundation for building most every outfit you wear. Don’t second guess a splurge on items considered ‘basic’. A higher end pair of black slacks will fit beautifully, won’t fade, and will last you for years to come. Consider basic purchases as investments in your wardrobe. You will be so glad you did.

Without fail, I wear every item on this list, a least, weekly. In fact, I’ve been known to wear my basic black pants three times in the same week!

Stretch knit trousers:

I have two pair of “go to” basic black slacks. One is a pull on trouser in full length, so it lays nicely over my pull-on black boots for a sleek finish. The second pair is a straight leg, more fitted pair that looks nice with ballet flats or driving mocs/loafers

Wonder stretch skirt:

With your trusted black skirt in the perfect length, you feel like a true powerhouse. Sophisticated and chic, comfortable and always in style. I’ve had the same black skirt for years and enjoy pairing it with booties, tall stretch boots, tights or no tights and any top in my closet.

Tissue turtleneck:

The Tissue turtleneck is my absolute favorite sweater. The thin fabrics means no bulky fabric adding extra pounds and also looks chic worn solo with a cami underneath for warmth and a matte silhouette.

Crisp Cotton button up-Frank & Eileen:

A white button up blouse is a must have in every woman’s wardrobe. Frank & Eileen is as classic as it gets. A favorite brand of many celebs, this piece is worth the investment.

Cashmere sweater-cardigan:

If I could have one of these cashmere cardigans in every color, I would wear every one! Pair this over anything and you look instantly stylish and put together. Classy and confident is how I feel wearing a sweater cardigan. Go with a neutral color like soft grey, khaki or black and you won’t believe how often you reach for it.

Cashmere funnel neck pullover:

An effortless cashmere sweater is a piece I try to invest in every fall. Cashmere is definitely an investment but well worth it because it will last 10 plus years. Dry clean only and show these pieces the love they deserve.

Oversized cashmere wrap:

Paired with your black work pants or skirt and you’re ready for the office or pull on a pair of your favorite jeans and you’re ready for errands and lunch with a friend. Add an oversized cashmere wrap to add a little pizazz!

Cashmere & Wool wrap dress-Diane Von Furstenberg:

I’ve had this wrap dress in my wardrobe for longer than I care to admit. The timeless look is always in style and the wrap style means it always fits perfectly. To the office, I wear a black cami underneath for extra comfort and coverage.

Turtleneck Sweater Dress:

Do they say diamonds AND dresses are a girl’s best friend? This girl says heck yes! Dresses take the mix and matching out of getting ready, they are super comfy and easy breezy to wear. Something about a turtleneck makes me feel elegant and stylish, so this turtleneck dress is the best of both! Hello Confidence! Add boots and tights if it’s chilly outside or pair with booties or sneakers for a more casual look.

Blazer in Italian stretch wool:

My version of this JCrew blazer is so old, they only had one in stock and it’s a size 0. Mine still looks great and the fit is just like when I purchased it years ago. A navy blazer is a closet staple for men and ladies too. I enjoy wearing mine with a fitted white tee, jeans and a fun patterned belt.

Slim Perfect T-Shirt:

This perfect Tee from JCrew is just that. I try to keep a fresh looking tee in my closet at all times. They are great solo or under a navy blazer, crew neck sweater or Patagonia fleece.
